For a decade the summer center of gravity in Camarillo tilted toward the Outlets. Fourth of July fireworks, the seasonal pop-ups, the reliable dinner-and-a-movie logic of a Saturday night — all of it pulled east toward the 101 off-ramp. That gravity is shifting.
The reason is not a single grand opening. It is a Friday, three restaurants, and a small pile of coming-soons that have quietly turned Ventura Boulevard into the town's most interesting evening corridor. If you have lived here through a few summers, the change is legible in your calendar: you are driving to Old Town on weeknights again.
The Friday that reset Old Town's weeknight math
The Camarillo Old Town Friday Night Cruise runs the 4th Friday of the month from March through October, 4 to 7 p.m., staging at the Studio Channel Islands Art Center at 2222 Ventura Boulevard. The 2026 summer dates land on July 24 and August 28, with roughly 200 classic cars, vendors, face painting, and live music filling the block. What has changed in the last eighteen months is what happens on Ventura Boulevard on the other three Fridays.
The Cruise used to be an event you drove to. Now the corridor it runs down is a place you drive to on the other Fridays too.
That is the thesis worth testing this summer. Every subhead below is evidence.
A weeknight-by-weeknight read on July and August
Camarillo's summer schedule is unusually dense this year, and the shape of it rewards a resident who plans by day of the week rather than by event. A working template:
- Thursday belongs to the Camarillo Ranch. The Ranch Foundation's Throwback Thursday Food Truck Festival is running one Thursday each in June, July, and August, 5 to 8 p.m., with local beer and wine and open access to the 1892 Adolfo Camarillo house grounds. On July 23, the Malibu/Ventura chapter's Plein Air Paintout at Camarillo Ranch overlaps the same afternoon.
- Friday belongs to Old Town, Cruise night or not. On non-Cruise Fridays, the draw is the new dining stack on Ventura Boulevard (more on this in the next section).
- Saturday belongs to Constitution Park. The Pleasant Valley Recreation & Park District and City of Camarillo Summer Concerts return to the park at Carmen Drive and Paseo Camarillo, admission free, with a Cousins Maine Lobster night wrapped into the August 8 concert at 601 Carmen Drive.
- Sunday belongs to Camarillo Ranch again on the third Sunday of the month, when the docent-guided garden tour walks a dozen thematic gardens at 11 a.m.
This is not a roundup. It is a rotation, and once you see it as one, the summer stops feeling scattered.
The three openings that made Old Town a dinner destination
The Old Town food scene has been building character for a while, but three specific arrivals in the last twelve months are what have pulled weeknight foot traffic away from the Outlets.
Luv 'n Eat Ramen opened recently in Old Town with a menu of ramen, rice bowls, and salads deep enough to justify a return visit. Ramen was the missing category in the Camarillo dinner map for years, and the Visit Camarillo directory now lists it among the neighborhood's newer sit-down anchors.
Boochies Matcha Bistro landed in Camarillo's hot-and-new column on Yelp as of July 2026, running the specialty-matcha play that has quietly reshaped Ventura County coffee menus. It matters less as a matcha bar and more as an afternoon staging point: the corridor now has a place to sit between 3 and 5 p.m. that is not a chain.
Hiatus Craft House is the third leg. Its Summer Mixology Workshop on Thursday, July 23 at 6:30 p.m. is a small event on paper. It matters because it is exactly the kind of programming that used to require a drive to Thousand Oaks or Ventura.
Two more openings shape the near future. Stephen's Grill, from Grigorios Katrakazos (known to patrons as Chef Ka), opened in late February 2026 at the former Souplantation site in the Camarillo Town Center, adding a full-service steakhouse to a plaza that had been quietly hollowing out. And Slice House was confirmed by the Conejo Valley Guide on July 16, 2026 as coming to Camarillo Village Square at 2390 Las Posas Road, in the former Pizza Man Dan's — the fourth Ventura County location for the pizzeria after Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, and Ventura.
If you were writing a mental map of where to eat on a Camarillo weeknight, five of those seven names did not exist on it two years ago.
Where the Outlets still win
None of this means the Outlets have gone quiet. Latitude34, from award-winning chef Alex Castillo, is a legitimate destination restaurant at the Camarillo Premium Outlets, casual-upscale, with indoor and outdoor rooms and California-fusion cooking that pulls diners from as far as Ventura. Rosa Madera has moved into the same neighborhood with a strong first-year following. Chick-fil-A Camarillo Outlets at 670 Ventura Boulevard, open since May 2025, absorbed a real portion of the weeknight family dinner traffic that used to route to Old Town. And Texas Roadhouse is still in the pipeline for a spot next to Finney's Crafthouse at the Promenade, which will be the chain's first Ventura County location once the CEQA review clears.
The distinction worth holding in your head this summer: the Outlets remain the destination for a planned dinner. Old Town has become the corridor for the unplanned one.
The mid-August pivot
The single busiest weekend of the summer is not the Fourth. It is August 15.
Wings Over Camarillo Air Show, Car Show, and STEM returns to the Camarillo Airport that Saturday from 9 a.m., pulling regional traffic through town for most of the day. If you live near Pleasant Valley Road or the airport perimeter, plan errands for Sunday. If you have out-of-town family visiting, this is the weekend to invite them.
The following weekend layers two more events onto the same August rhythm. The 3rd Annual Brew, Chews, & K9 Crew Cornhole Tournament takes over McCormick Home Ranch on Saturday, August 22, at noon. Seven days later, on Saturday, August 29, the Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament fills Kildee Park from 8 a.m. Three consecutive Saturdays of large outdoor gatherings on different sides of town is a Camarillo summer signature that residents underestimate until they try to book a lunch reservation the same afternoon.

The shoulder-season teaser worth knowing about: Adolfo Camarillo's birthday celebration returns to the Ranch on September 27, with the Camarillo White Horses, docent-led tours of the 1892 Queen Anne mansion, and Mariachi Camarillo. That is the day the summer officially closes.
